FAQs
How is Collins School of Dance different from other dance studios?
In Coach Collins' opinion, each dance studio is a gem! But, if we're getting technical here, Codi-Belle's knowledge of early development, social-emotional needs, and early literacy gives CSD a leg up. Each class is not only catered to the art of dance, but in developing important social-emotional skills, early literacy and linguistic skills, and expressive/ receptive communication skills. It's all part of the hidden curriculum!

Coach Collins hopes every student that crosses into the studio falls in love with dance and develops a forever hobby. However, she acknowledges that many littles are here to try out something new and will probably not have a life-long dance career. She wants to make sure that she teaches much more than just the fundamentals of dance so that all students will leave CSD with applicable social skills and values!
What does recital look like?
Long story short- CSD's dance recitals may not look like other studios, but we have good reason! Since we run on a semester basis, we have two recitals a year- one in December and one in May. Coach Collins cannot justify raising tuition costs or charging an additional fee for costuming. Even the most basic dance costumes cost $30 to be worn on stage for less than 3 minutes. To avoid this, Coach Collins gives each class a theme to follow. This allows (1) parents to have flexibility when it comes to purchasing outfits and (2) each dancer to show their personality on stage!

CSD recognizes that most students are involved in many other activities and sports- all which come at a steep cost. Coach Collins will always try her best to minimize the cost of dancing so her studio doors can be open to any little one who wants to try it out.
Age is but a number (but if we had to give it one- we'd say three.) What's more important is that your child is potty trained. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Coach Collins to discuss options.
My child is involved in other sports. Can they still participate in dance classes?
How old does my child have to be to take classes?
Absolutely. This is actually the reasoning behind our semester scheduling. If a student is involved in spring sports, they are fully able to participate in a fall semester of dance. And vice versa! Since we are affiliated with MCRD, we try our best to ensure that our athletes can experience more than one extracurricular activity. We do ask that conflicts known in advance (games/events/etc) are told to Coach Collins as soon as possible.
Can parents watch classes?
Unless otherwise discussed with Coach Collins, we ask parents to refrain from staying within the dance studio (and within view) of your child. Especially for our younger students, seeing parents makes the transition to class really hard and may cause a lot of strong emotions.
We are lucky enough to have a second studio that parents are allowed to sit in if they feel more comfortable.
